Using the latest approved version of translationStudio (11.1) is only part of the work of making sure that a laptop or tablet is ready to go when it gets to a MAST event. New language codes are being constantly added, and new source materials are also being added, which makes for a difficult situation on the field when Internet is not reliable, or is expensive.

Fortunately, the missing resources in translationStudio can be easily added manually, provided one has access to them. This could be done in Orlando, if it is found that it is easier/cheaper/faster than updating the computers via Internet.

The first thing that needs to be updated is the target translations language code database. This is a file called index.sqlite. It can be found in:

  • the databases folder inside the translationStudio folder on Android
  • the library folder inside the hidden translationstudio folder on Desktop, which is to say:
    • %localappdata%\translationstudio\library on Windows
    • ~/Library/Application Support/translationstudio/library on Mac
    • ~/.config/translationstudio/library on Linux

The next thing that should be updated is the source language files. These contain the texts of the Bible and OBS that will be used by translators to translate into their own languages. The files should be placed in:

  • the resource_containers folder inside the translationStudio folder on Android
  • the resource_containers folder inside the library folder inside the hidden translationstudio folder on Desktop

The source language resource containers can be compressed into zip files with the extension .tsrc to save space and speed copying.

Finally, the images for OBS need to be installed. Because the unfoldingWord and DCS websites have changed, translationStudio is no longer able to download the images for Open Bible Stories. This means that it is impossible to print OBS with images from translationStudio unless the images are manually loaded. Please consult the following link for information on how to do this. https://techadvancement.com/community/open-bible-stories-obs/images-for-open-bible-stories/
