e-Visa was not fast. iVisa.com provided no support, and we got our visas through the intervention of our local contact.

Visa payment is made in cash at entry to the country. Officially, the visa is paid in Euros or FCFA — I was quoted $110 to pay in US currency.

Two telecom providers: Airtel Gabon and Libertis. At our location, Airtel had better signal strength, but Internet throughput was basically nonexistent. Libertis was acceptable, and actually worked.

Data plans are time-limited. We found the sweet spot to be in the 30-day plans:

  • 3Gb = 6,000 FCFA = $12US
  • 7GB = 10,000 FCFA = $20US
  • 12GB = 15,000 FCFA = $30US

This was with an exchange of 500 francs to the dollar, of course.

There was a general strike while we were there, and that may have affected Internet performance. Water and power outages were definitely linked to the strike.
